Predictive Rail Grinding

Description: Through field monitoring, evaluate the evolution of surface damage and create a uniform scoring approach for capturing the surface and rail profile degradation rates, from which we can develop predictive damage models. Once those surface and profile degradation rates are calculated, develop rules to set the overall optimal grinding frequency and metal removal, including an appropriate clustering technique to optimize grinder routing.

Status: Paper presented at IHHA 2017. Last field review just completed (Oct 2017). Data needs to be compiled and reported.
