Crack Modelling

Crack Modelling – with a focus on metallurgical aspects

Lead: Daniel Szablewski, NRC Canada

Description: Focus on a more fundamental approach to understanding RCF crack initiation and propagation in a variety of steel microstructures. Understand how RCF cracks propagate through different types of microstructures under variable loading conditions. The microstructure of rail samples will be analyzed for RCF morphologies and rail grain structures. Observed cracks will be modeled to see if accurate predictions on crack growth can be made.

Status: Rail samples being acquired for analysis.
