      Dear Colleagues,

At the ICRI workshop in Delft it was suggested that having a stronger “WHY” (as in “why are we doing this?”) for each ICRI project would improve participation and outcomes. An idea was raised that perhaps we could let the VTI-Economics project be the driver of research needs – since the “why” often comes down to economics. But while some aspects of safety can be monetized, it is important that the ICRI retain a keen interest and focus on risk and safety to assure that we retain the participation of stakeholders for whom safety is more important than economics. A VTI-Risk effort that will run parallel to the economics project and try to relate technologies, materials, research, etc. to improved safety and reduced liability.

This project is seeking persons with experience and expertise in evaluating and qualifying risk and the benefits of risk avoidance.
